Denver Hair!

Just wanted to pop in to say hello and let you all know that I am doing hair as a personal hairstylist to YOU.  I come to your home.  I go all over Denver, Lakewood, Highlands Ranch, and wherever you need!  I can do color at home (if you don't mind jumping in the shower to rinse.)  I can clean up the whole family in one shot! We can have some wine, everyone gets a new do and you didn't have to drive anywhere.  I've been doing this for the last seven years, and finally decided to quit the salon gigs and go TRAVEL STYLIST full time.  It is so fun, the connections are wonderful, its relaxing, affordable and you can't beat it.

So pop in and say hello via email, or call or text me at 303-596-6794!

Smoothing System I'm Sold On

Global Keratin Hair Taming System with Juvexin, is probably the best smoothing system I've seen, used and worked with.  It is NOT 'Brazilian Blowout'.  It lasts 5 months.  I have worked in places where I had to wear a gas mask to apply the straightening product, and in this case I do NOT.  Of course it helps it last longer if you can go 48 hours without shampooing after the treatment, but it is not so detrimental like other products are.  You can pony tail it, get it wet, use clips...of course, always better if you don't - but it doesn't ruin it and it is not so touchy.

There are many products that start with the words 'GLOBAL KERATIN'...choose the salon that uses Global Keratin with JUVEXIN, with the gold logo.  It does have formaldehyde, that is the only thing that straightens hair enough so that it actually lasts.  This system is a product that also balances hair, smooths it and isn't harsh.

http://mystylebell.com/2010/05/06/global-keratin-juvexin-uncovered/ - most informative article I've read so far in explaining why and how this product in particular works.

What it does is RESTORE the hair.  Its not a heavy duty STRAIGHTENING, chemical bound system.  It will smooth your hair, it will nourish the hair, it will restore your hair to its natural ph.  What that means is:  When hair is too alkaline, it looks/feels damaged and dull.  When it is balanced, it is smooth and healthy.  That is what Global Keratin does to your hair.  That smoothing balance.   The hair WILL be straight, it is great to have this done right before you may be travelling somewhere very humid, its great if you want your curls back when its over, your hair is not damaged.  You can get it colored the same day, as long as you do color first.

The more you do this process with Global Keratin, the longer it lasts. The shampoo that comes with the process when you come in for the smoothing, really cleans out all product build up in the hair and also helps that ph balance you need for healthy hair.  You are shampooed a couple of times through, the straightening/smoothing product is combed into the hair, depending on the curl/frizz of the hair; you sit for 20 minutes, (longer if needed) the hair is blow dried and then smoothed with a flat iron.

Its like it improves with each use.  The only other thing we recommend to keep this balance is the sulfate free shampoo that comes with the system.  Using the shampoo and conditioner with the system only keeps it lasting.  It's worth it.

At Foundation Hair Studio you can get a smoothing system done starting at $99.00 - call and book with me.  You will be sold too!

Dry Scalp but Oily Hair

Dry scalp and oily hair?  It seems like the two shouldn't go hand in hand; it seems like they should cancel each other out.  The tendency is to not shampoo your hair so much so you can try and calm down the dryness but you also have an oily build up and want to 'clean' it.  How can you combat both? One thing is, dandruff can be present when scalp is dry or oily so it doesn't just mean DRYNESS.  It is also said to be genetic but the flakiness can also be caused by seborrhoeic eczema  which is essentially a skin rash, but can be anywhere on your body.  Seborrhoeic eczema also affects the sebaceous glands, which are on your head. So it can be treated with a medicated shampoo, as if you were treating a rash with medication.

Some tips that might help with flaky scalp:
  1. Leave medicated shampoo on the scalp for anywhere from 1-5 minutes.
  2. Try this with your regular shampoo/Head and Shoulders-if that's what you are using.
  3. Use medicated shampoos like a prescription, on a regular basis for a certain amount of time, just like a medicine in order to be effective.
One rule that stands either way; for any flakiness and scalp irritation, is to not treat your scalp too rough during shampoo, i.e. do not rub too hard.  A doctor's visit might be in order if you've already tried everything and the problem persists, or the scalp is red, irritated or itchy.  This means you need to treat it as eczema; like you would if it appeared anywhere else on your body.

One strong ALMOST medicated shampoo is Kenra's Dandruff Shampoo.
One reason I find this product works is that I learned it is the closest to prescription grade in the ingredient Zinc Pyrithione at 1.9%.  Use it as you would a medical grade shampoo and leave it in for five minutes.  Also, use as needed, you don't need to use it every day forever.  The next step would be to see a doctor and get a prescription grade shampoo if the problem doesn't lessen or go away.

What causes the oiliness in the hair despite you washing it all the time, is that frequent shampooing (as you are trying to get rid of the flakiness) is causing the sebaceous glands to over produce.  Your body needs and makes a certain amount.  Sometimes this gland is over active, and sometimes you are causing it to make more.

Tips to help with oily hair:
  1. Be gentle to your scalp, try and shampoo every other day if you are shampooing daily.
  2. Don't rub too hard or be too rough.
  3. Use your conditioner on your ends only. No need to get it into your scalp.
  4. Use a leave in spray on conditioner, on the ends only, as the spray leave ins seem to be lighter in weight.

Trying everything and still seeing a rash or oily flakes, might mean a call to a dermatologist is in order.  This is fixable and workable!  And as usual, watch your diet, medications, hormones; all of which affect your GLANDS SCALP and HAIR.

Hot Cuts for Summer

I love this cut.  I also love the beard style and how the beard is trimmed.  You still get to have a pretty thick beard, longer on chin, nice and close on the sides.

Another fave...David Lynch:  I will do this cut for free if you leave it this long on top.

I LOVE THIS.  Mention this blog and I'll do it.

More variations on this theme:

What I love about these cuts is the update of the Don Draper with the kind of punk style of the super short sides.  This way you still have something to play with on top for a messy look, a spiked look, an updated faux hawk or wear it slicked back.

As far as this goes, I LOVE the cut on women too!

Again, there are variations to how short and how long you have the sides and the top.
Product is key to these styles.  Some of my faves for the messy, longer on top look are these:

Eufora Piece Works Defining Paste - 3.5 fl oz

Basically anything that is NOT gel.  Gel flakes and falls apart.  You need something moisturizing,  a little sticky, kind of thick, and that you can touch throughout the day and the style does not fall apart, look stiff and you can restyle or re-mess however you like.

Have fun and call me up and we'll play!!

Intro to Movember

INFO ABOUT WHAT MOVEMBER IS:

www.movember.com

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo's, these men raise vital awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

Men start Movember 1st clean shaven. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their gallantry and valor by either throwing their own Movember party or attending one of the infamous Gala Partés held around the world by Movember, for Movember.
